Day 77 - light fixtures, electrical outlets, cabinets, thermostat, and HVAC unit!

Wow! They got sooooo much done today! The trim guys are very nice... we talked to them yesterday and today while they were working. Have I mentioned I can't believe how much they got done today?

 

exterior garage door lights are in.. .I forgot to look at the light by the back door and I forgot to look for can lights on the porch.

Can lights in the basement are in... there are a couple of oops holes in places... I'm sure they'll get fixed.

Cabinets are going in... should be done tomorrow.  They are measuring for granite tomorrow.

So, we still haven't locked.. glad to see rates drop a bit today. We will lock this week I'm sure... it's getting close! We did find out today that we can pay PMI up front and not put as much down... after running the numbers... it makes sense for us to keep some cash in the bank and do this... so.. if rates drop some more tomorrow or Wednesday...we will be locking! Can't wait to have that done!  I'm starting to accumulate boxes so we can pack this tiny apartment and get out of here.

 

I submitted a request for a moving company.. they asked what is the best way to communicate with me and I said email... they have yet to email me... just called once.. .so why did they ask???  Looks like I need to get busy on that!

Day 76 - Doors and Window Trim

They worked today and got most of the doors upstairs put in along with almost all of the window trim.  I was excited when we pulled up to see most of the boxes no longer in the garage... I was hoping that meant they were installing cabinets... but they weren't. They moved them inside to make some space to work in the garage. Some were out of boxes though! They said they'd be done in another day or two... not sure what's next.... plumbing and electrical maybe? We noticed more dirt dumped in the backyard. I'm guessing they are getting ready for final grading.

Window trim... we talked to the trim carpenters while we were there and they said it's taking them a bit longer than usual because Ryan is one of the only production home builders that does window trim.

Vanity and sink are in.  We didn't spend the money to upgrade to a double bowl.  I wanted it to be a single vanity, but didn't think it was going to be... so this was a nice little surprise.  I'm planning to get a little stool so that my daughter can sit there and fix her hair (and makeup when she's older).

Standing at the top of the stairs.  Still need to put the door on the kids' bathroom. Still need the door on the linen closet in the master and the door to the toilet space in the master too. Then upstairs will be done except for carpet trim.

Day 75 - Finally Trim has started!

They worked all day and at first it didn't look like they had done much, but then we noticed they had taken all of the doors to the rooms and cut all the trim for the 2nd floor and the basement and they were in the rooms.  So, I'm guessing tomorrow they'll be able to start installing it all. They did get the banister in for the 2nd floor and almost have the bottom part ready to install. I'm hoping they work tomorrow, but I'm not sure if that's part of the plan or not. Here's a few pictures....

We started shopping for our home theater stuff. We looked at projectors, receivers, and subwoofers at Best Buy. I think we need to go buy a lottery ticket!  So.. I would say DON'T buy a projector at Best Buy. The cheapest one they had was $1200! Much, much cheaper online. We didn't buy anything. I think we are better of shopping online and reading up on what exactly we really need. It would be very easy to spend a TON of money on this and I don't think it's really necessary. 

 

 

Day 74 - Stone is done, still no Trim Carpenters

PM has finally found a crew and they were to start on Monday. However, he called Friday afternoon and he was headed to the house to meet the crew there and they are starting this morning. The outside looks great! I will post more pictures tonight. PM says we should still make closing on the 16th! Just made my last rent payment on the apartment... we can't get out of here quick enough!

Day 71 - stone...still no trim carpenters

Our stone is going up and it looks really good! Still a no-show on the trim/cabinet carpenters.  PM says everyone in the office is working to get another crew to the house. Trying not to stress. We have our weekly update tomorrow...hoping to have some progress by then.

 

Not sure what the big pile of dirt is for...that's new.

 

Day 70 - Stonework started, trim carpenters no-show AGAIN

They put up the concrete where the stone goes. Guessing they will be back tomorrow to start the actual stone. PM confirmed that the trim/cabinet carpenters no-showed the last few days.  So, on to plan B..... although we have no idea what plan B is.  I'm starting to get tired of going to the house every night.  Maybe it's a good thing that I have late meetings for work the next 3 nights and won't be able to go! So, no idea if we are still on schedule. Won't know that until PM finds a new trim carpenter... so my cabinets sit in boxes in the garage... still.

Day 69- Nada

Apparently when our PM said the crews would be working through the weekend, he meant somewhere else. No work done today or yesterday. Hope we are still on schedule. :(
